Which comes first, the egg or these very cool chicken-topped egg holders on the bar at Sassafras? It doesn't really matter because we're in love with the latter. Those are, in fact, edible hard-boiled eggs with salt, pepper and hot sauce nearby to accompany them. The eggs are gratis for bar-goers, if you're into that sort of thing. They do remind us of the jars of pickled or hard-boiled eggs we've seen at some of our favorite dive bars across the country. We imagine co-owner Bobby Green found the holders first and decided to make use of them at his crazy-cool Antebellum-inspired bar (it's kind of a thing for Southern bars to have eggs, we guess). Free bar snacks are even better when served from kitschy tableware.
