| Rosa Mexicano's signature tableside guacamole |
Opening just in time for Game One of the World Series comes
Rosa Mexicano, the first NorCal outpost of the high-end New York Mexican chain restaurant touching down at Mission and
Steuart Streets. Like all the other Rosas, this one specializes in presenting contemporary
cocina in a stylish, festive setting, but the Bay Area team, which includes executive chef David Suarez and consulting
Top Chefs Masters (and former
Chez Panisse alum) Jonathan Waxman, is going to great pains to San Francisco-ize it with the addition of locally sourced produce, Mary’s chickens and 4505 Meats (such as the chorizo featured in a new fondue dish). Dinner begins tonight at 5:30 PM (check out the official
lunch,
brunch,
dinner,
Young Amigos, dessert and
beverage menus) and lunch will follow starting next Monday from 11:30 AM- 2:30 PM. The restaurant will be closed on Sundays but the bar will remain open in between lunch and dinner, serving a boatload of tequila and sangria, along with snacks such as its signature tableside guacamole (shown above). Beginning November 3, weekend brunch will be served from 11:30am-3:00pm.
Expect a mad crush this weekend as fans wend their way through SoMa on the way to the ballpark. Foodies looking for a calmer way to check out the new spot should look out for the restaurant’s first-annual
Fall Harvest dinner on
November 7. Crafted by Jonathan Waxman, the four-course menu ($45) will feature highlights such as fall guacamole with toasted hazelnuts and pomegranate seeds, wild mushroom and chorizo salad with butternut squash, grilled lobster and scallop tacos with papaya and pumpkin seeds and ancho-chile pumpkin cheesecake. Reservations to pre-purchase the Fall Harvest dinner are already been accepted online at the restaurant’s
website.
