For his review this week, NY Times critic Pete Wells dropped by the famed 21 Club and found the food to be lackluster and forgettable. Even so, he loved the place. He calls out his affection in the first paragraph of his review: "This is going to be a kind of love letter to a restaurant where the food is largely forgettable and the prices are almost always unwarranted."
Well, then. Apparently this old-school eatery's trick to gaining its clients' lasting affection is getting them drunk. Wells has a lot of good things to say about the booze and wine programs, and he also likes the bathroom attendant, who says some untoward things about Halle Berry when he visits the loo. Even though the food is kind of meh - Wells confirms he'd go back every now and then to check out the old-school charm. Read the full review here.
