New Chef and Menu Debuts at The Churchill

Mmmm...gougeres
The Churchill on Third Street is just about a year old, and really beefing up its menus. First a new cocktail program was launched, as well as new management. Now Bruce Kalman is executive chef and launching a new menu on Thursday (Oct. 4). What's that mean for you? Duck confit casserole, gougeres with garlic chives, pork cheek an piquillo pepper stew. A daily breakfast menu includes things like brioche French toast with spiced apple chutney, and short rib hash and eggs; lunch is all about pizzas topped with duck sausage and goat cheese, big salads, and burgers (grass-fed beef or veggie-quinoa). Sure, any of these could be number 11 on our must-try fall dish list.

Kalman has literally worked all over the map, but was most recently at Urbano Pizza Bar in Downtown LA and The Misfit in Santa Monica. He's also worked with both Paul Bartolotta and David Burke, and even received a James Beard nod for Rising Star Chef in the Midwest. Sounds like the hot spot - seriously, it's packed on the weekends - is seriously trying to up its foodie game. The Churchill is open Sunday-Thursday from 7 AM to midnight, and till 2 AM on weekends (8384 W. 3rd St.; 323-655-8384).
