Ludo Lefebvre/Animal Guys' New Eatery Will Have "Truck Stop" Concept

Today we sat down with chef Ludo Lefebvre to talk all about his new cookbook LudoBites, and in the process we checked in on his upcoming restaurant project with Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo (Animal, Son of a Gun). We confirmed that the restaurant will be located inside a strip mall on the corner of Melrose and Highland, (across from Mozza) and it will be an intimate 36-seat space with a "truck stop" concept.

Ludo's recent appearance on an episode of No Reservations in which he traveled home to his native Burgundy with Anthony Bourdain is what inspired the "truck stop" idea: "Actually my wife said, 'why don't you do what Anthony says? You should do restaurant like this.' [like a French routier or truck stop] Of course it wont be a routier like you see on TV, but the same concept -  a truck stop, but more elaborate and I want to do a good French restaurant."

As for the menu, Ludo emphasized that he wanted the place to be not too casual but not super fancy either - somewhere in the middle. As for the food: "I will say definitely French but I want Vinny and Jon to bring some good American dishes too. I love Southern food especially. The food will be like 80% French, 20% American." The name for the eatery is still up in the air but it likely won't be Le Trois Mec, Ludo tells us. As for the opening date, the build-out will be complete in a month so Ludo and Krissy estimate the potential for a December/early January opening.
