The generosity of diners and the restaurant community never ceases to exist. We saw a cry for help from chef Mark Gold and his wife Alejandra for donations to help save their Beverly Boulevard resto, Eva, the other day. And *poof* people came bearing gifts. The Golds needed help paying some whopping fees to take care of a permitting fight over parking spots in the neighborhood. It's a lot of red tape stuff we don't really understand, but they asked for help and it came via big and large donations.
A note from Alejandra said, "Our 'friends of eva' and family
(some people we haven't even met yet) stepped up and donated just shy of $8,000 in only two days! Donations from $10 to $500, plus one donation from a person who contacted me yesterday stating they passionately wanted to contribute the rest of the $12,000 needed - they would like to remain anonymous. So we have reached our goal and can now file our appeal to preserve our rights." During all of the hullabaloo, chef Mark has been staging in Copenhagen while the restaurant runs it's usual day-to-day schedule. And that's how it will remain, at least for now. When the news hit the other day, there were both supportive and "wtf" comments around the internets. If you want to see the good, check out the Eva newsletter.
