Ela and The Mildred Launch Brunch This Weekend

Adjacent neighborhoods Queen Village and Bella Vista are each getting a new brunch option this weekend. On Third and Bainbridge at Ela, chef Jason Cichonski is serving his first of regular weekly Sunday brunches, with a menu of contemporary takes on traditional midday dishes. From 10:30 AM-2:30 PM, stop in for savory biscuits and bone marrow or the previously happy-hour-only burger, or go sweet with butternut squash French toast or gingersnap pancakes. Bloody Marys come in flavors like truffle, kimchi and roasted beet, or you can take the edge off your morning with a spiked Vietnamese iced coffee or caramel apple mimosa. Plates are mostly $13 and under (267-687-5812).

Over on Eighth and Christian at The Mildred, chef Mike Santoro is offering the morning meal from 10:30 AM-2:30 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. The cast-iron cooking highlighted at dinner carries over to the daytime dishes, with options such as a pan-roasted hanger steak ‘n’ eggs and baked sourdough pancakes with roasted apples. Sip on a mimosa, shandy or one of four Bloody Marys, including a Sicilian take made with gin and beef bouillon. Prices start at $5 and top out at $15 (267-687-1600).

  1. Looking forward to having more than one brunch option in South Philly where I hopefully wont have to wait an hour and a half!
