Doowee & Rice: New Cheap Asian Option in Somerville

If you’re looking for down-home, cheap Asian eats, check out the newly opened Doowee & Rice in Powderhouse Square - near Davis Square - in Somerville.

What you see is what you get: ample servings of house-marinated chicken, steak, etc. over rice made with a touch of olive oil and Asian seasoning. “Something we’ve been using in our family for quite a while,” says owner and chef Duy (pronounced Doo-wee) Tran, who uses then tweaks his family recipes for the dishes. He calls it Vietnamese-inspired Asian fare.

The 24-seat cafe is a simple dining room of red banquettes, tables and chairs, tiled floor. No alcohol is served. But it’s all under $10, which makes this newbie a hit with the nearby Tufts Univeristy students and anyone looking for flavor and value.

Doowee & Rice is open Monday through Thursday, 12-9 PM; Friday, 12 PM-12 AM; and Saturday 12-9 PM. Closed Sunday.
