A recent trip to Slagel Farm gave us an appreciation for the fine art of, well, killing and cutting up animals into delicious pieces. Sorry vegetarians. Fellow carnivores can get their own first hand experience with gourmet meats at the first Red Meat Market. This event, coinciding with the last day of the Daley Plaza Farmers Market, celebrates local ranchers and butchers. The day features speakers such as keynote speaker Bill Kurtis, founder of Tallgrass Beef Company, as well as butcher demonstration by chef Cosmo Goss from Publican Quality Meats and Rob Levitt from The Butcher & Larder. Cuts of meats will also be for sale from Louis Slagel of Slagel Family Farms or Bartlett Durand of Black Earth Meats.
The best part: The wheel of meat. No, it is not a wheel covered in meat, and we are also disappointed by this, but guests can spin the wheel for a chance to win those coveted cuts. Grub Street has the full lineup of speakers and special events starting at 8 AM.
