An Urban Garden Grows Schwarma in the Fairfax District

For years people have asked us what happened to Eat a Pita on Fairfax and if it would ever return. Now it doesn't matter: Urban Garden will be bringing all of your falafel - and schwarma and babaganoush - needs to the neighborhood. George Abou-Daoud, the man behind a slew of spots including Bowery, Township Saloon and Rosewood Tavern a few doors away, debuts his new Mediterranean fast-casual concept on Friday (Oct. 26).

The space is simple and green, with clean-lines, a few tables and a long open kitchen and counter where you'll place your order. The menu features Med and Middle Eastern dishes, some based on Abou-Daoud's Lebanese family recipes, including hummus, salads, lemon-herb rotisserie chicken, and lamb schwarma, which he promises no fillers or pressed meat. Just real good lamb. The idea is to order combo meals choosing from pita (whole wheat or white), bowls with white or brown rice, dips, salads like tabouli, fatoush or Tuscan kale, and proteins like falafel, chicken or schwarma. Urban Garden will be open for lunch, dinner and take-out from noon to 10 PM daily. You can always hop next door for all your whiskey needs.
