including Kilo, a wine bar in Hell's Kitchen that we noticed last week. The spot is a total charmer - a varied list of vino is totally affordable and the bartender immediately chatted us up, helping fill the afternoon with stories of the summer (including a tale of a hangover or two).
The menu of shareable plates is also very inexpensive - plenty of tasty options are available for $5-7. All of the bites go well with the wine - a cheese plate is $12 and contains some unique fromages, the Brussels sprouts were elevated with some crispy bacon and the salt cod croquettes were far larger than we expected. Our favorite dish was also the simplest - an heirloom tomato salad served with basil, landaff cheese and sea salt. When people swoon over heirlooms, this is the dish they are talking about - it was a perfect plate, and and and excellent way to spend the last afternoon of the season (857 Ninth Ave.).
