The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Horiatiki Salad at Pylos

While the recently opened Boukies has been stealing most of the spotlight of late, East Village neighborhood standby Pylos (from the same owners) is always a go-to when we're seeking shmancy yet authentic Greek food.  The small plates-focused menu allows diners to sample a variety of hot and cold meze, traditional Greek entrees like moussaka and pastitsio and of course, seafood. Among all the dishes we sampled on a recent visit, our favorite had to be the horiatiki salad. With superbly ripe organic tomatoes, salty kalamata olives, crunchy cucumbers and creamy feta, this simple salad was the perfect summery start to our meal. Pylos is located at 128 E. 7th Street.
