Newtonians filed into Terry O’Reilly’s Irish Pub Saturday night, and a few came back for more on Sunday evening, according to manager Warren O’Reilly, which is a good sign for this new neighborhood haunt.

“A lot of people can walk here,” said O’Reilly, whose father, Terry, also owns and operates Trinity Bar & Restaurant in Norton. “It’s great when you can walk to your local pub.”

Besides the popular fish ‘n‘ chips, Shepherds pie and nachos - the mussels sautéed in white wine, butter and garlic (and washed down with Guinness) and the hummus and pita were a hit.

O’Reilly said in a telephone interview Sunday night the pub will do dinner-only through most of this coming week, then open for lunch - eventually serving both, seven days a week.

The pub is the second restaurant to open in Newton Centre in the past two months. Farmstead Table opened last month, and Sycamore by Ten Tables chef David Punch is scheduled to open in October.
