In his
fall preview this weekend,
Philadelphia Inquirer restaurant critic Craig LaBan broke news of an exciting new project destined for South Street. Stephen Starr has teamed up with Peter Serpico, former culinary director for David Chang’s NYC
Momofuku empire, to open a modern Asian restaurant at 604 South Street, in a former Foot Locker. The 52-seat space will feature an open kitchen, and serve “edgy-yet-sophisticated” food - think amaro-scented oxtail soup and burned mackerel tataki. Serpico tells LaBan he moved here to take advantage Philly’s more relaxed vibe, although by eschewing reservations, the new spot should cause plenty of nightly excitement on its own. Serpico is targeting a December launch.
