Smashburger, an upcoming arrival on the fast casual scene, will open its first DC Metro location in Fairfax next month. The Denver-bred chain distinguishes itself from the patty pack by smashing the meat on a flat grill to get a crisp crusted sear. An extensive array of toppings and buns customize sandwiches, and grilled chicken, hot dogs and a veggie burger can be subbed for the beef. There are serious salads and even veggie frites - not to mention fried pickles and chili peppers.
