Chef Cesare Casella's UWS den of cured meats has always been a neighborhood favorite, so it's a no-brainer that he would expand to other areas of town. Today he brings the concept to the East Side, opening a location at Madison and 72nd Street. The UES outpost will have an excellent of salumi, but there will be some key differences between this joint and the UWS original.
There will be an expanded market section where guests can pick up bites and ingredients to go, and the menu of classic Italian will offer full portions of dishes like rosemary pork chops and Lucchese ravioli. The 60-seat dining room is larger than the one on the West Side, and it's decorated with Roman frescos and life-sized figures like the ones found in Pompeii's Villa of Mystery. If you want to drop by and get you salumi fix, the new location opens tonight at 903 Madison Ave.
