Oktoberfest celebrations happening around town this weekend. But this shot of the shiny new kegs at Almanac Beer Co. reminds us that beer is indeed an agricultural product. Almanac is a pioneer in crafting small-batch, farm-to-barrel seasonal ales that have been flavored with regionally harvested ingredients (Marshall Honey, Blossom Bluff Farm Mandarin oranges, Sebastopol Berry Farm). These brews have only been available in 750-ml. bottles and for short spurts, but the company released its California Table Beer Series in 10-ounce six-packs which can be found at specialty markets and local bars such as Toronado and The Abbot's Cellar.
So when you're off celebrating the NDB day today, consider supporting your local farmer. Almanac Beer will be one of the featured brews tonight at Nombe's Japanese Oktoberfest and several beer-centric events next month. Check out their Facebook page for future brewfests.
