Starting this week, chef Jeffrey Power will be serving a special family supper each Monday at Dettera in Ambler. September’s featured entree is roast chicken, and for a total $39 guests can order a feast designed to feed two adults and one or two children. That price includes the meat, fall veggies and silky mashed potatoes for the table. Future Monday suppers may feature whole fish and pumpkin ragout (215-643-0111).
Tuesday
The monthly pairing dinner at McCrossen’s Tavern in Fairmount will focus on the Mediterranean Riviera. Chef Townsend Wentz will serve four courses to complement wines chosen by sommelier Lauren Harris, and Rocco Rainone of Di Bruno Bros. will be on hand with additional cheese pairings. The price of $40 is all inclusive, covering food, wine and cheese. Reservations are suggested (215-854-0923).
Wednesday
In honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day (which has been celebrated throughout the world on September 19 for 10 years now - yes, really), Krispy Kreme is offering free glazed donuts. All you have to do to get your gratis treat is go to one of the donut shops and, well, talk like a pirate. If you are dressed in full pirate regalia (just an eye patch doesn’t count), you’ll score yourself a full dozen.
Thursday
This season’s last Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll takes place along the West Philly boulevard from 4:30-7:30 PM. Dozens of vendors will offer $1 treats, such as grape leaves from Aksum, vegan cupcakes from Green Line Cafe, mac ‘n’ cheese from Elena’s Soul and beer from Dock Street Brewing Co.
Friday
Fort Washington’s Cantina Feliz is serving a special “Back to Cool” tasting menu all week long. Three courses of authentic Mexican favorites - designed by chef Tim Spinner in collaboration with line cooks who hail from Mexico - will be available for $25 per person, and can be ordered with a Herradura tequila beverage pairing for an additional $12 (215-646-1320).
Saturday
Farmer Dean Carlson will join Pub & Kitchen chef Jonathan Adams for a five-course dinner featuring meats from Wyebrook Farm for $80 per person. Bring your own beverages to pair with dishes like beef tartare with ratatouille; heirloom tomatoes with chicharrones; and porchetta with roasted squash and polenta. Space is limited and reservations are required (reserve via email here).
Sunday
Jose Garces’ Latin-Asian Chifa is throwing an end of summer BBQ, with an all-you-can eat buffet of grilled meats and assorted starters and sides. Starting at 4:30 PM, guests can mingle throughout the Chestnut Street restaurant and munch on Asian BBQ pork shoulder, beef ribs and chicken, along with ceviche, kimchi and other salads. Reservations for the $35 event are suggested; beverages will available for separate purchase (215-925-5555).
