On the Radar: Oktoberfest Specials, Time Travel Dinner

On September 22, Back Deck in Downtown Crossing kicks off its Oktoberfest celebrations. Enjoy a trio of sausages ($16) such as bauernwurst, Neurnburger bratwurst and bockwurst, served with braised red cabbage, mashed potatoes and whole grain mustard. Beer specials will include seasonal drafts that run $3.50-$14, and pitchers will go for $12-$20.50. Enjoy the festivities during lunch and dinner through October 7 (617-670-0320).

On September 24, be part of an intimate group to dine at Alden Castle in Brookline for a “Time Travel Dinner." Chef David Blessing will be preparing a four-course prix fixe inspired by the upcoming release of Looper, an action/sci-fi “back to the future” film about the mob, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis. The menu will include traditional deviled eggs, a modern wedge salad, seared filet mignon, deconstructed “Wellington” pastry and more. The Looper soundtrack will be the background music. Those attending will receive a complimentary ticket to the advanced Boston screening of Looper taking place on Thursday, September 27 at the Boston Common Theatre (6 PM; $50 per person; click here to buy your ticket to the event).
