Now Open: Gorge in West Hollywood

Prepare to gorge at Gorge
Welcome yet another Top Chef alum to the scene: Elia Aboumrad, a finalist from Season 2, and pastry chef Uyen Nguyen open Gorge tonight on the Sunset Strip. The young chefs met 10 years ago in Paris, and between the two of them have worked for Joel Robuchon, Guy Savoy, Tom Colicchio and Hubert Keller, mostly in Las Vegas. Nguyen was a Star Chef up-and-comer while at Guy Savoy in Sin City. They both bring their talents to the menu - Aboumrad, making charcuterie and sausages, and Nguyen with her seasonal Saint Honore - and a fun wine list to pair with those and other small plates.

About the name: It's not just a catchy contemporary shortened word for 'gorgeous', though the place is pretty attractive. Instead, it comes from the French "old war" expression "A la gorge!", meaning "To the throat!" And apparently militant kitchen brigades adopted it in preparation for a night of serious service. We like to think it also describes exactly what you'll be doing there.
