Commence bacon hoarding - a report from the National Pig Association in the UK has it that "a world shortage of pork and bacon next year is now unavoidable." A statement like that is pretty much all it takes to sent the entire media world into a tizzy (bets on this ending up in an SNL sketch this week.) The shortage is being blamed on U.S./European drought which decimated soybean and corn crop (resulting in herds getting less feed). The net effect of this would mean a drop in pork supply by 10% in the second half of the year, doubling the price of European pork. Read more about this story here.
