The weather has been nothing but cooperative at the new Mission Rock Resort since it opened almost a month ago and the crowds have been streaming in to enjoy its waterfront patio seating and seafood-centric eats (and mighty fine burger). But the management has decided to scrap the original idea of running a grab-and-go breakfast and lunch counter on the ground level.
Turns out, while the upstairs dining area has been going like gangbusters, Peter Osborne Jr. tells us that not a single person was stopping into the downstairs grab-and-go area which had been open from 7 AM-2 PM. "Everyone wants to sit upstairs or outside." Who can blame them? Osborne reports, "this neighborhood is amazing. It's the first to clear up in the morning and the last to get the fog in the evening."
So rather than fight it, the management is just following their customers' lead. The downstairs kitchen has been converted a private event space and extra prep line, but they are seating folks on the downstairs patio during weekend brunch. (We're told the Biscuit Breakfast, featuring housemade biscuits and sausages with scrambled eggs and potatoes, is the runaway dish on the brunch menu). Osborne adds, "we may revive the idea at some point" when the vacant office space and condos across the street fill up and daytime foot traffic to the area increases.
Going forward, Mission Rock's regular hours are lunch and dinner 11 AM-10 PM Monday and Friday, 10 AM- 10 PM Saturday and Sunday, and 10 AM-4 PM on the downstairs patio for brunch on Saturday and Sundays. Do note that while the restaurant accepts reservations, outdoor seating is on a first-come basis, so while you can request patio seating, there's no guarantee. Check out the updated menus online.
