Mars Disowns the Deep-Fried Mars Bar

Did you know that a deep fried Mars bar is considered one the national dishes of Scotland?

The batter-covered chocolate bar was invented 20 years ago in a chip shop, and although it sounds like a heart attack in the making to us, apparently it is very popular with the locals. (The Guardian reported that Carron Fish Bar sells 100 to 150 of them a week.)

Less thrilled with the idea is Mars, which is now seeking a menu disclaimer that states it does not endorse the deep-fried version of the product. They have said it goes against their commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles.

If only eating a Mars Bar - even one that isn't deep fried - was a healthy lifestyle choice.
