The Grilled Oyster Company, a recent start-up in Potomac, MD, showcases Chesapeake bounty in softly lit surroundings that welcome tony locals with a stylish bar and family-friendly vibes.

The Food: A chalkboard lists the day’s fresh oyster varieties that are offered raw bar style or grilled with interesting toppings. Maryland blue crabs are featured in dishes like the Chesapeake cioppino, and crab cakes (of course). Salads, sandwiches, a burger and moderately priced entrees featuring chicken, seafood and meat, plus a children’s menu, mean that there’s something to fit most appetites.

The Drink: Classic cocktails include some with a seafaring theme like the Salty Dog, Dark and Storny and Sailor Jack Cuba Libre. Wines by the glass and bottle as well as draft beers will provide lubrication for neighborly meet-ups and pre-dinner schmoozing.

The Look: Muted colors and flattering lighting establish a relaxed atmosphere. A giant Chesapeake crab sculpture proclaims its focus, while white paper over the tablecloths adds to the seafood restaurant feel. Ceramic tiles, paintings and prints add nautically themed decorative touches.

The staff’s energy, an interesting menu and welcoming indoor and outdoor settings seem likely to make this a neighborhood fixture.
