First Look: Niu Noodle House, Giving New Meaning to "Street Food"

Yep, that's a mini Washington Square Arch
You dim sum, you lose some, but there’s a lot of win at Niu Noodle House, a new Asian Fusion spot that’s heating up Sixth Avenue in the West Village.

The restaurant is done up like a movie set for a New York City street scene, with a mock subway entrance, a miniature version of the Washington Square Park arch, storefront awnings and security gates (plus cool yellow and blue lighting that mimics the feel of streetlamps and neon signs). While this type of décor could seem cheesy in, say, Times Square, the vibe is more “ironically kitschy” here. (The trendy-looking crowd at the bar helps!)

The menu is focused on dim sum-style appetizers like dumplings, lollipop chicken wings, shrimp and chicken satays, spring rolls and calamari rings, plus soup noodle dishes made with the chef’s own unique brand of ramen noodles (called “Niu noodles” and made fresh in-house every day). Beer, wine, bubble tea and assorted ginger- and fruit-infused cocktails are available to wash it all down.

Could this be the next Ippudo, as some online reviewers have suggested? Only time will tell…

The Details: 15 Greenwich Ave., 212-488-9888
