Federal Donuts Second Location Opens October 3

What’s the best kind of fast food? The kind that’s made by local chefs. Though it has garnered a ton of national attention (The New York Times wrote a glowing review), until now Michael Solomonov's Federal Donuts had but one tiny location in an out of the way neighborhood in South Philly. Not anymore. On Wednesday, October 3, doors open at Federal Donuts number two at 1632 Sansom Street, smack in the middle of Center City, and we've got the menu.

There’s not much more space at the new shop - it has 10 counter stools for seating - but there are new tastes on both the sweet and savory sides of the menu. “Fancy” donuts (made each morning in large batches) will come in tantalizing flavors like mint chocolate cookie, maple bacon and spicy PB&J. “Hots,” made fresh to order by the automated donut robot, will come rolled in spice mixes like Turkish mocha and strawberry-fennel.

On the chicken front, look for half or whole birds (or a half or dozen whole wings) with new seasonings called cowboy coffee and shabazzi, or coated with new glazes passionfruit teriyaki and dill pickle. Just like at the original, chicken service will begin at 11 AM daily, and the store will be open until chicken sells out (posted hours are 7 AM-7 PM, seven days a week). We’re headed over on Monday for a sneak taste of the sweets, we’ll keep you posted on the results.
