Pretty much the worst place for a restaurateur to be these days is on Eighth Avenue in Chelsea, because the eateries that have called this strip home have been shuttering at a rapid clip. We noted
Nisos shut down, and
Redwood Kitchen couldn't even last a year, and now long time French eatery Gascogne is the latest to fall victim to rising rents. A reader sent in the intel - and call to the eatery confirms that it has shuttered. Whoever is the new tenant of the space will be in for a gorgeous back garden, but until then, le sigh.
It closed at the end of August.
