Matt Levine and the team from him Sons of Essex are opening a juice/cocktail bar hybrid on the Lower East Side this week. Dubbed Cocktail Bodega, the new joint will feature liquor-infused smoothies and cocktails made with freshly squeezed juices. The bi-level space features two completely different environments, upstairs it's bright and airy and downstairs it's gritty. If you recognize those poles and seats, it's because they were once part of the subway, Levine and co. purchased them directly from the MTA. The basement decor is finalized with some graffiti by LES artist Doug Aldrich.
Boozy smoothies aren't the only thing on the menu, menu items offering a creative take on street food will also be served. There's a kimchi reuben that's stuffed with gruyere, corned beef and the namesake ingredient and some jerk-chicken satays with pineapple salsa. Press materials promise that top 40 won't be played - awww, come on - we're excited for the smoothies and all, but wouldn't they be better when listening to Call Me, Maybe? Check out the full drinks list below the jump (205 Chrystie St.).
