Closings: Chizakaya, Bagel on Damen and Alain’s (sorta)

Another week has passed and it took a handful of restaurants with it. One has closed for good, one is getting a makeover and the third is in a little bit of trouble with the law.

On Saturday, Chizakaya announced via Twitter that it would close that evening. The Japanese pub operated on a lonely stretch of Lincoln Avenue, and may relocate to a more restaurant friendly part of town.

Bagel on Damen also shuttered this week. However, owner Dion Antic told Eater that he plans to transform the space into Haute and the Dog, a gourmet sausages shack with hand-cut fries. The transformation will take a few weeks, but when it reopens expect more seating and a less stark atmosphere for enjoying their ten hot dogs topped with the usual suspects as well as a few unusual ones such as mac and cheese or pulled pork.

The new South Loop spot backed by Chicago Bear Israel Idonije found an eviction notice on their door this week. Alain's temporarily closed, but Chicago Magazine reports that it will reopen on Monday.
