Eating on the tube is something we usually frown upon (pistachio nuts do not travel well, people). But from September 19-23, when the London Transport Cafe launches, we think we will be ok with it.
As part of the London Design Festival, Transport for London has teamed up with Canteen - a supporter of British food - to launch a 1950s-style transport cafe at designjunction on New Oxford Street. The restaurant will be decorated with London Underground wall tiles and seats will be covered in the same material seen on 1930s routemasters. Confirmed menus are still to be announced but we hear there will be lots of British food (pie and mash, Scotch eggs, Welsh rarebit) as well as afternoon tea. Mind the gap!
