Big Name Chefs Making Big Plans Around Chicago

News flash: chefs and restaurateurs who already have successful restaurants are opening more restaurants. Rick Bayless, Billy Lawless and the team from Longman & Eagle all announced expansion plans this week.

Frontera Fresco
Rick Bayless’s quick service restaurant chain will claim a new location in Norris Center at Northwestern University. Serving Mexican food with a focus on fresh ingredients, the walk-up counter will replace Sbarro, (which was serving greasy pizza to the student body) as well as Jamba Juice and Crepe Bistro. Unnamed West Town Restaurant
Billy Lawless, the owner of The Gage and Henri, has been working to keep his newest concept quiet. We applaud his efforts, but no food news stays silenced in Chicago for long. The reason behind the secrecy is that the soon-to-be American restaurant will take over the location of a restaurant still in operation. [Crain’s]

Promontory
The crew behing wildly popular Longman & Eagle have set their sights on a restaurant, bar and concert space in Hyde Park. Owners Bruce Finkelman (Empty Bottle, Bite Cafe) and Craig Golden (Evanston's Space and Union Pizza) along with chef Jared Wentworth are aiming for an opening early next year. [Eater]
