Bar News: Glendale Gets The Famous, King Eddy Saloon Change Coming

The Famous gets boozy in Glendale
While you consider whether you like your drinks shaken or stirred in our Mixology Survey, here's a little bar news to sip. Following the whiskey bar trend, Glendale now has The Famous for bourbon, rye, scotch and any other spirit, really. Located in the historic Huntley-Evans building, the cocktail list is fashioned after the classics, overseen by former Eveleigh barman, Nick Vitulli. There are craft brews, too, and food coming soon (154 S. Brand Ave.; 818-241-2888). [via Eater]

Earlier this summer it was announced that the King Eddy Saloon, one of Downtown LA's best dive bars, and the oldest bar on Skid Row, was bought by Michael Leko and Will Shamlian, partners in nearby Library Bar and Urbano Pizza Bar. That meant that the inevitable gentrification process would take place, and that day is night. While Leko and Shamlian say they're just giving it a slight cosmetic overhaul - they're keeping the name - be sure the drink prices will go up and the cast of characters who (sometimes) show up at 6:30 AM, when the bar opens, will no longer be there. If you want to to go "Where nobody gives a s*&t about your name," you have a few weeks still. [via KCET]
