  1. Not exactly a fair comparison - a Wopper or a Big Mac cost a little over $3, while a Five Guys cheeseburger is made to order and cost a little over $6. That's out of the realm of fast food in price and serving time.

  2. Fuve Guys burgers are amazing...and one of the only hamburgers my son will eat. He asks for Five Guys constantly!!

  3. Five Guys have the worst fries I ever had!

    1. Really? They're among my favorites. Fried in peanut oil. Yum!

    2. I think you're talking about In and Out fries. Those are truly the most pathetic, limp, flavorless fries on this planet.

  4. Five Guys can't compare to In-n-Out at all!!

    1. Totally agree. Zagat has put another nail in it's coffin in my mind by putting Burger King and Wendy's above In-N-Out. They've about lost all respect I have for their ratings...

  5. Sorry, but Five Guys can't hold a candle to In-N-Out. Five Guys Burgers are much greasier. Their fries are pretty good, though.

  6. 5 guys is the greasiest burger i have ever eaten

    1. The bag in the picture speaks to the grease factor! Yuck!

  7. I am losing faith with Zagat when Red Lobster and Joe's Crabshack beats out Bonefish for best seafood.

    1. Totally agree with that. Bonefish Grille is 100x superior to Red Lobster and Joe's. It's like comparing Ruth's Chris to a Waffle House T-Bone. Ok, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration but you hopefully get my drift.

  8. Steak & Shake burgers are much better than even 5 Guys. Surprised they did not make the list.

  9. I am assuming that the only reason Jersey Mike's didn't get listed as the best sandwich is that they must not have enough restaurant locations to qualify for this survey. Best sub hand down.

    1. What is a sub? Man up and get a hoagie from Carmen's.

  10. Hmm. I'm betting everyone who is remotely interested in this article and discussion is 40+ pounds overweight. Gross food. Gross people.

    1. You get fat when you eat more calories without concern. That's how your body works. Whether it's gross food or your perception of what constitutes healthy food (including those grains with pesticide loading), you eat more than you can burn off, you'll end up 40+ pounds.

    2. I'm a USAT Triathlete and likely burn more calories in a month than you do in a year...if it's not painfully obvious to you already, most of the world enjoys fast food. Some more than others, but the fact remains that it's a huge business. Any restaurant (or human, for that matter) can render a calorie count irrelevant when cooking with no regard for ingredient quality or portion control. Get real.

    3. I take it that you are 40+ pounds too since you were interested in reading this article.

  11. 5-guys is NOT "fast food" and should not be on the list. Suggest Steak & Shake as better than the others on the list.

  12. Haha, 5 guys is only number 1 because it's nationwide.. Some of the best flavors are regional! In n out is hands down the most fresh and tastiest. People who disagree have been eating garbage for so long they dont know a good burger when they taste it haha jk

    1. Five Guys just moved to Wichita KS about a year ago. We have many good, local burger joints. I am still waiting to find one person here who loves Five Guys. I agree that it is probably #1 because of its chain size!

  13. Terrible survey. It's like the All Star game. Players ins teams in the largest cities have an advantage. So does Carnival Cruise Lines. Your poll should reflect votes by people who are familiar with some of the better chains, not just a popularity contest of the biggest chains!

  14. Actually, I find 5 Guys burgers to be VERY DRY. All because they only cook the meat to medium well or dustbowl.

I had a great burger at the Counter in Chicago last Saturday. All pink in the middle, very juicy, and with a greater choice of toppings than 5 Guys.

  15. I just don't get it. Why is McDonald's the yardstick by which all other fries are measured? I don't really like Mcdonald's fries, even a little. Those frozen ripply things in the freezer section of the supermarket are better. I would agree 5 Guys' fries at #2. They're great. For me though, #1 is Nathan's fries. Maybe there aren't enough Nathan's locations left to make the survey?

I would add Roy Rogers to the list for fried chicken (again, maybe too few of them left?). If you go back several decades, Roy's changed their batter recipe. Before the change, it was the very best fried chicken around. Too bad.

Starbucks? Really? It's bitter and burnt tasting. That's what French Roast really means, right? DD's is much better. Starbucks shouldn't even be on the list. The Cumberland Farms gas station near me has great coffee at half the price.

Yes, 5 Guys is too expensive for fast food, but still cheaper than the local diner.

On the Border is fast food? By me, it's a full service restaurant.

  16. OK who exactly are the ones doing the testing. It’s obviously not the general public. 5 Brothers is good, but not a top 5, 10 maybe but not 5. Most people writting continue to mention IN N Out. It's got my attention to go there now.

    1. OK, go to In-n-Out but be warned: The burgers are pretty much like McDonalds plain burger. They aren't bad, just really bland.

  17. Probably Five Guys is not a good restaurant for a vegie consumer to eat at, HOWEVER, I never have trouble finding something to eat at any other carnivore haven. At Five Guys the only thing for me to eat was a grilled cheese sandwich with fries. That is okay, I love grilled cheese, and what can one do to ruin this American treasure? I have no idea, but this was the worst grilled cheese sandwich I ever tried to eat. The fries were not much either. Most of it was tipped into the garbage bin and we haven't been back. I have NO IDEA what the big fuss is about with respect to Five Guys. I will stick with vegie options at Wendy's, McD's, etc.
