Zen Palate Comeback? New Branch Opens in Murray Hill

NYC Vegetarians were dealt a crushing blow when Zen Palate closed its mammoth multilevel Union Square restaurant in October 2007 (now home to a TGIFriday’s), and things continued to look bleak when the Financial District locale shuttered in Summer 2009, leaving it’s Hell’s Kitchen outpost the last man standing.

The mini-chain, known for meatless, soy-heavy dishes with names like shredded heaven and sweet and sour sensation may have been down, but it certainly wasn’t out. A new, albeit smaller, Union Square branch quietly opened in 2010, and though an UWS location that set up shop in early 2011 didn’t last long, this week’s Murray Hill opening still points to somewhat of a comeback. We can practically taste the shredded melody already (516 Third Ave.; 212-685-6888).
