Tony and Joe’s Seafood Palace, closed since the April 2011 flooding of its Washington Harbour site, will reopen its dining room on or before September 1. Meanwhile, its outdoor patio has been providing Potomac River vistas along with cocktails, light fare and top-notch people-watching.

Encircled by tall windows, with cascading water features, nautical wood, and stylish appointments, its newly remodeled dining room feels like a posh ocean liner. An eating bar faces the open kitchen.  Popular seafood dishes from the restaurant's past - crab cakes, lobster, rockfish, mussels and shrimp cocktail - will be menu staples, and specials featuring Chesapeake area ingredients will be introduced daily.

Both the dining room and patio overlook a massive fountain plaza that has also been given a 21st century upgrade. The new fountain can soar sixty feet high, and is accompanied by a high-tech light show. Seasonally, it will be transformed into a skating rink. We’re told it will be larger than the one in NYC’s Rockefeller Center (3000 K St. NW; 202-944-4545).
