The Cambridge: South Street West Gains a Gastropub

“Country bred, city cured.” This four-word phrase, coined by The Cambridge's executive chef Matthew Plank, does a better job describing the new South Street pub than we could with a whole paragraph. But we’re tossing in a few details anyway, because the array of interesting food and well-thought-out beverages - not to mention the attractive interior of reclaimed wood and exposed brick - make this second venture from Hawthornes owners Heather Annechiarico and Chris Fetfatzes a must-visit addition to Center City.

The husband-and-wife pair grew Hawthornes from an over-the-counter bottle shop (albeit one with 1,000 options) into a full-service restaurant, and their expertise in both beer and food shines at the new tavern. Not a soul will miss The Tritone - the divey performance venue that stood at 1508 South Street for 11 years - once they spend an evening enjoying the inexpensive eats (nothing tops $21) and laid-back charm of The Cambridge. What will you find? Read on to find out.
