The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Prosciutto and Fig Pizza at Gina La Fornarina

Another random jaunt to the Upper East Side landed us at carb-happy Italian chainlet Gina la Fornarina for a casual din. To our surprise, most of the plates we sampled at this Roman-inspired laid-back eatery were surprisingly tasty and authentic. Our favorite dish had to be the prosciutto and fresh fig pizza which is topped with a cream of parmigiano white sauce. The creaminess of the cheese melded well with the sweet figs and salty prosciutto. Meanwhile the pizza crust was thin and crisp and charred nicely. All in all, this combination of flavors on top of a pizza worked exceptionally well. Gina La Fornarina has multiple locations.

  1. Thanks for this informative review. We visited the cool little restaurant recently on Second Ave and 82nd and thought our food was sheer perfection. We then tried the new Gina's on Madison Ave and spotted some celebrities-but we were treated really friendly. The pastas seemed homemade! love those kind of local finds. Try the squash ravioli or the Sangria called Capri. Really different and refreshing. Its a white wine base. Loved our food and so did my guests. We live in France but must say New York sure is a great food town.
