The 5 Best Chinese Restaurants in the Bay Area

Dumplings from Yank Sing
With Mission Chinese stealing so much of the spotlight on both coasts right now, we got to thinking  about the less-trendy but authentic Chinese food options available to us right here in the Bay Area. Check out our list of the top Chinese spots from our 2012 San Francisco Bay Area Restaurants guide in the slideshow below. What's your favorite spot for Chinese food? Let us know in the comments.

  4. R&G Lounge is definitely at the top for me, but you need a much longer list!

  5. Definitely Koi Palace! Ton Kiang and Yank Sing may have good dim sum, but they are not known for their other general Chinese food. Wouldn't go to those places for everyday dinner...there are many other restaurants that the Chinese frequent with very good Chinese food (eg - Daimo in East Bay, Asian Pearl restaurants, Mayflower, etc.) The Chinese generally don't go to Tommy Toy's or Chinese Mission Food.

  6. Yank Sing has gone really downhill in the past few years in terms of quality. Ton Kiang is still among the best for dim sum.

  7. How about Great Eastern, yuet lee

  8. Brandy Ho's! Steamed dumplings with chili paste, and Harvest Pork. Just the best!

  9. Peony in Oakland! Thurs night special Peking Duck 2-ways! Seafood live from the tanks!

  11. My pick is that Schezuan restaurant in Belmont called Gin Mon. Their signature schezuan crispy fried beef dish is the best.

  12. How could you omit the rest of the Bay Area? Let's start with Chef Chus in Mountain View.

    1. Chef Chu's is so over rated. Hunan Home's is a much better choice

  13. Not one entry from Milpitas, Fremont or Mountain View, not a single Sichuan restaurant, and two dim sum places neither of which is Koi Palace?

making "value judgements" of the "restaurants" or their "menus".

    1. I see you noticed the "high quality" of the "writing" too. Thank you for saving me the effort of poking fun at it.
