The Purple Shamrock, which is scheduled to close September 15. But it's been a Boston institution for 32 years. And it will "not go gentle into that good night."(Yes, we know we're quoting Dylan Thomas, a Welchman.)
The iconic Irish pub announced today it will host two events before it shuts its doors. One will be an evening with favorite local musician Jim Plunkett September 8 (4-8 PM). At 2 PM that day Samuel Adams Brewery will be on site for a stein-hoisting competition.
The other event will be a “traditional” Irish Wake, on September 13, complete with an empty casket, bagpipers, music, food and plenty of drink.
According to a press release, prayer cards will be distributed and a "purple wake" guestbook will be at the door to sign. “Last Call” T-shirts will be on hand to purchase and cry into.
The Glynn Hospitality Group has been talking about relocating The Purple Shamrock, though no new location has been announced.
