Open Call: What Are Chicago's Most Overrated Dishes?

Are we done with cupcakes?
Last year, we took at look at some dishes in NYC that receive a lot of buzz but do not live up to the hype (come on, is waiting in an hour-long line for a burger ever worth it?). The post stirred up quite the debate, so we decided it's time to find some more overrated dishes in other cities. We want your nominations - is that certain new cupcake really all that? Is that tiny little plate at that red-hot restaurant really worth the high price tag? Let us know which Windy City dishes you think generate more buzz than they deserve either by leaving a comment  or e-mailing jmulcahy@zagat.com with your suggestion. Stay tuned for the results next week!

  1. more cupcakes are overrated. I saw a list on another blog of Chicago's best cupcakes and was offended that More made the list. Cakes are too dry, way too much frosting on most of them, frosting tastes like butter and are too sweet. I can't fathom why people like them other than the weekly free-cupcake-facebook-tagging frenzy.

I don't really like sprinkles or magnolia that much either, but they aren't Chicago based so I don't think they count.

    Much prefer Molly's for cupcakes.

Billy Goat tavern is all hype and history, no taste.

Fogo de Chao is good, but there are better Brazilian steakhouses like Zed 451.

I like the food at most of the Rockit Ranch (Sunda, Rockit, etc) places, but they aren't anything to write home about.

I think that Weiner's Circle, Ed Debevic's, Rainforest Cafe, et al are all known tourist traps.
