Open Call: What Are Boston's Most Overrated Dishes?

You know the dishes we're talking about - those love-'em-or-hate-'em ones that seem to divide Boston diners right down the middle. The chowder that only a tourist could love, or the pasta at that acclaimed Italian restaurant that you wouldn't dare serve to your family. We want to know what you think are the most overrated dishes in town - let us know in the comments or via e-mail. Your suggestion might just wind up in our upcoming roundup!

  1. New England Clam Chowder-how to ruin seafood. Flour, cream, butter, yuck. Seafood is best when it's served with vegetables in a THIN broth. I hate the Yankees but I'll take Manhattan.

  2. My most over-rated dish is the Boston Cream Pie at The Parker House. The cake is dry, and they serve it cold - which means the cream filling and the layer of chocolate on top is too firm and has no flavor. Everyone knows that a dish has more flavor if you serve it room temperature, not straight out of the refrigerator.

I just don't understand why people rave about it - it's mediocre at best, and doesn't really represent what's great about Boston - at least to me!
