Now Open: Spitz Brings Döner Kabobs to Los Feliz

Taps are flowing behind the bar
Robert Wicklund and Bryce Rademan debuted their third Spitz this week, taking over the Amwaj in Los Feliz. The original Eagle Rock location didn't have beer when it opened, and the second Little Tokyo spot had a few craft brews and now spirits on the menu. The newest Spitz boasts the largest beer list - 12 taps, all flowing with California beers - in addition to 30 or so by the bottle an sangria. The food is similar to the other locations, featuring Döner Kebab, slow-roasted, spit-fired meat that's shaved into paper-thin strips - it's similar to schwarma but with a slightly different flavor. There are also salads and great sweet potato fries, among other dishes.

The space is open and airy, heavy on the wood, even some reclaimed from Frank Sinatra's former Coldwater Canyon home. There's a lot of welcomed natural light from the wooden shutters that open to the sidewalk. Street-art murals cover the walls, long tables fill the room, and there's a little game room with shuffleboard. It's very cool and communal, like Los Feliz itself. We're hoping for some great graffiti in the bathrooms - the walks are covered in chalkboard paint. Hours are 11 AM to 11 PM during the week, and it stays open until 1 AM on the weekends (1725 Hillhurst Ave.; 323-522-3309).
