New York Dining Deals and Events August 20-26

La Promenade des Anglais


Dessert queen Alice Medrich will be at the Strand Bookstore from 7-8 PM tonight to talk delicious dessert recipes. Treats and refreshments will be served, and copies of Medrich’s cookbook Sinfully Easy Delicious Desserts will be available for purchase.


City Grit culinary salon hosts the chefs behind NOLA restaurant August for a five-course, Louisiana-inspired French dinner with wine pairings at 7:30 PM. The meal costs $175 and goes to benefit Chefs Move! which funds culinary education for minority students in New Orleans. Get info here.


Chef Alain Allegretti whips up a French Riviera-inspired menu at Chelsea’s La Promenade des Anglais tonight at 7 PM. Chef Allegretti will be on hand to present each of the four courses, as will sommelier James Morrison who will walk guests through wine pairings. The evening costs $65 (or $95 with paired wine) and spots can be reserved by calling 212-255-7400 and mentioning Zagat.


Spend Thursday evening improving your cooking skills with a class at the Institute of Culinary Education. Today’s offerings include lessons in the essentials of Basque cuisine, a class on creating the perfect seasonal meal for summer, and a couples’ cooking class focused around shellfish. It’s the last day of L.A.-based Handsome Coffee Roasters’ pop-up at Flatiron Brooks Brothers. Swing by between 2-5 PM and pick up a gratis iced coffee.


If you’re headed to the Hamptons this weekend, spend Saturday night at Harvest East End, a tasting event featuring fare from 30 top regional chefs from spots like Almond and The Living Room at c/o the Maidstone, as well as vino from 40 Long Island winemakers. For a savory end to the week, visit Williamsburg’s Crown Victoria Bar from 4 PM on Sunday for their weekly pig roast prepared by chefs Jose Ramirez Ruiz (formerly of Isa, Per Se) and John Ratliff (formerly of Anella). Wash your meal down with over with a beer from their 24-tap selection, including a wide range of craft brews.
