Meat the Greek: Food Truck of the Week

Given the state of affairs in Greece these days, it's no wonder the Mavropoulos family decamped for California. And considering there aren't many Greek food trucks roaming the streets of LA, it was a given they'd want to launch one. Combining their experience in the olive oil and cheese business, a love of hospitality, and recipes from generations of grandmothers they recently launched Meat the Greek. And anyone who loves a good souvlaki should find it.

Greek food generally skews healthy, considering the meats are marinated in lemon, extra virgin olive oil and herbs, grilled or roasted, and served with tzatziki (yogurt and cucumbers). It's the kind of stuff you could eat every day. Here you'll find pork or chicken skewers stuffed in a pita or in a wrap, fresh feta-laced salads, and not-so-healthy fried meatballs and hand-cut fries. Oh, and those fries show up inside the wraps, too. And nope, not one gyro to be found. Catch Meat the Greek at the usual truck clusters across town, food the truck nights in NoHo and Santa Monica, or follow it on Twitter and Facebook for today's whereabouts.
