| Get that green stuff off our manly burger! |
What makes a burger joint particularly manly? Does it skip the flowers on the table or shun silverware? Is there testosterone pumped through the ventilation system to induce a meat-centric feeding frenzy?
The answer is none of the above. What a manly restaurant must do is appeal to the readers of Men’s Health during their Manliest Restaurants in America contest. The contest, which began three months ago called for readers to nominate the manliest restaurants in the country. From there, entries were narrowed down and grouped into categories. The winner of each category was determined by another round of voting. All of the nine winners will appear on an upcoming feature on the Travel Channel. Finally, in December, the manliest of the manly restaurants will be crowned.
Butcher & the Burger claimed the title in the burger category. Their BYOB butchery classes and menu of exotic meat patties from elk to grass fed bison made them stand part from the other competitors.
We thought their burger was the bomb, but it didn't make hair grow on our chest (thankfully).
Another local spot won in the pizza category. Burt’s Place - a small joint on the north side which has been churning out Chicago-style pies under the watchful eye of their grizzly owner and namesake, Burt Katz, for three decades.

Forget the burgers. The name itself is manly enough to win the competition.
