The folks behind Benares in the Theater District are gearing up to expand, announcing today that they will open a new location in TriBeCa. On Monday, September 20 a new outpost will start serving a vegetarian-friendly menu of dishes like Jaipuri Gohbi, which is potato and cauliflower cooked with cumin, coriander and chili flakes. The 70 seat eatery will be larger than its uptown sibling, and the menu options will be expanded with the extra room in the kitchen (45 Murray St.).
Up in Hell's Kitchen, the space that used to house Eric Hara's restaurant 9 has some new signage up. We snapped this photo - it looks like the new joint Alfie's will capitalize on the craft beer craze, joining popular joints like Valhalla and Pony Bar in the neighborhood. No word yet on when the taps will start to pour (800 Ninth Avenue).
