Han Dynasty May Open in Cherry Hill; Han Chiang Fights Back

This morning, The Insider posted about a rumor that spice maestro Han Chiang has plans to open a sixth branch of Han Dynasty in Cherry Hill. This would be the first of the Sichuan outposts for New Jersey, landing on Route 70 in the Saw Mill Village. Chiang wasn’t able to confirm or deny the rumors, the article notes, because he is currently in China, studying the cuisine and learning old and new cooking techniques.

However, Chiang did take the time from across the globe to defend himself against a Philly.com commenter who called the Han Dynasty restaurants inauthentic, noting that “the owner” wasn’t even from Mainland China. Chiang, who is from Taiwan, replied with his usual fire, defending his food and ending with this: “Sorry for the rant but calling my food ‘washed down American Chinese food’ is worse than spitting in my face.”

We’ve never been to China, but the intense flavors and strong burning sensation that stayed with us after our last Han Dynasty meal seemed authentic enough to us. Have you tried Chiang’s food? What do you think?

  1. Han Dynasty is like the Olive Garden of Chinese Sichuan cuisine. Sure it might be authentic to someone who has never been to China or eaten Sichuan food, but to an actual person who knows the difference between good and bad sichuan food, it is a place that would not pass the grade. However, from a business standpoint, being an olive garden might not be a bad idea!
    Yes, I am that guy.
