One of the best things about Philadelphia’s restaurant scene is its diversity. From fine dining to BYO to martini bar to gastropub, from Northern Liberties to University City to Midtown Village to Rittenhouse, there’s no lack of great spots to get a bite. Though eateries are now proliferating like mad, it’s all thanks to a few trailblazers - endeavors from bold chefs or forward-thinking proprietors ready to take a chance and try something new. Here are half a dozen currently operating restaurants that were game changers in the world of Philadelphia food.

  1. This place could not be more overrated. Service is unpleasant, ambiance dirty and a reasonable dining experience totally lacking, and the food is random and often arrives cold. I tried it many times but decided the only redeeming quality of this place is the beer.

  2. Also- does that really say antelope?? If you attempt to order from this menu in the grimy old bar setting, you will be getting unsatisfying stuff like cold octopus and antelope and paying a fortune to receive a reasonable quantity. At least they still have a burger but it will set you back $15 w tax and tip.

  4. We tried Audrey Claire in the first months of opening.
The food was passable but the NOISE was deafening. I mentioned that, and she promised they were going to deal with the problem by baffling the sounds with wall hangings and sound mufflers for the ceiling. Never happened.
