This week Charlie Trotter’s namesake restaurant celebrates its 25th year in business, and in two weeks he will bow out - quit while he is ahead, as they say - and close the restaurant’s iconic doors on Armitage forever. During those 25 years Trotter forever changed the landscape of the Chicago food scene - raising the bar for chefs and upping the expectations of diners. He's launched the careers of chefs who've worked in his kitchen (witness Curtis Duffy, Bill Kim, Homaro Cantu and countless others), and he helped put the Midwest on the map as a culinary destination.
An era will end when Charlie Trotter's closes on August 31, but five other restaurants that changed the food game in Chicago still remain. Check them out in the slideshow below.
