Diablo Taco, a new joint that opened this week in Silver Lake, may be owned by the Sinister Culinary Group (Summer Sterns and Casey Weile), but there's nothing particularly menacing about the restaurant. Except that maybe the tacos aren't your usual carnitas/pollo/asada fare; more like beef cheek with horseradish potatoes and fromage blanc, or maple fried chicken and purple kale.
You can also try various 'skins' - pork or chicken chicharrones - and finish with refreshing house-made paletas in flavors like chocolate-espresso-bacon. And there's a decent list of craft brews on tap and in the can and bottle, sangria, and micheladas. It's located in the former La Parilla space (3129 W. Sunset Blvd.), a narrow low-ceilinged space with brick and chalk walls, a private room dubbed the "Janitor's Closet," and communal tables. Natch. [Via UD]
